    • Duck Tape Determined To Make Up For Defective Roll November 28, 2009
"Above and Beyond" stories can come from the most mundane sources. Such as this e-mail that reader MJ sent in praise of the customer service for Duck Tape brand duct tape. I recently had an issue with a roll of Duck Tape that ended up being bad. I bought a 2 pack of the better grade and it just wouldn't stick like I think it should. I looked u […]

    • Macy's Cheerfully Helps Customers Get Parking Tickets November 28, 2009
The employees at the Macy's in Washington, DC, sure were helpful earlier today! They showed customers where they could park for up to two hours while they shopped. Unfortunately, it turns out Macy's employees are not well-versed on parking rules in DC, and the manager there doesn't really think it's Macy's problem. Here's what h […]

    • Fry's Sells Magical Disappearing HDTVs To Customers November 27, 2009
The Fry's store in Renton, Washington, just played a mean trick on at least half a dozen customers. This morning, Jeff successfully navigated through the crowd outside, the crowds inside, and no less than five different lines in order to purchase a 52" TV. Everything went remarkably smoothly. Well, until the very end. This was the first ever Black […]

    • Walmart Shuts Down For 3 Hours After Shoppers Go Crazy November 27, 2009
The Los Angeles Times says that a Walmart in Upland, California had to kick everyone out and shut down for 3 hours this morning, because shoppers lost their damned minds. The store called police for help at around 2:44 a.m.: Employees said customers began tearing into merchandise that had been shrink-wrapped and were supposed to be opened at 5 a.m. [...] Sev […]

Scotland Makes Move Toward Energy Independence

HAPPY EASTER!! It’s a beautiful sunny day and here’s some good news to top it off.

biomass_cs.jpe

A Green Power station opened recently in Scotland, using biomass (trees) to generate electricity.

“The power plant will produce enough green energy, from the surrounding forests, to supply up to 70,000 homes – more than 17 times the population of Lockerbie.”

The wood used at the plant comes from waste from wood industry plants nearby, meaning no new trees would be destroyed for this purpose.

Also,

“This site is creating 50 jobs at Steven’s Croft and is supporting 250 more and it is great news that the timber is being sourced locally.”

Another great leap in technology and innovation. What an inspiring program. Not only are they using sustainable and renewable resources, but building green-collar jobs and strengthening their communities!
